The Anonia Award

(LAGS Intramural Referee of the Year)

The Anonia Award for the “LAGS Intramural Referee of the Year” is presented in memory of Fran Anonia…a coach, administrator and referee who died in 1994.

Fran was very active in the promotion of girls soccer not only within his own club in Lititz, but throughout all of Lancaster County. He always had a kind word and smile, and his positive, friendly attitude was exemplary. As a referee, Fran felt it was an honor to wear the uniform and officiate a soccer match.

In his honor, the Anonia Award will be given to a referee who not only strives for correct decisions on the field throughout the course of the season, but who also portrays a positive, friendly attitude toward players, coaches, spectators and the game itself. The referee should also project an attitude that shows he/she is proud to be a referee.

We believe Fran would be proud to be associated with an award of this nature. And, we believe we need more people like Fran in youth sports.

If you attend a LAGS match and believe the referee exemplified the attributes above, please nominate him/her for the award. Referees can be nominated by coaches, players, parents or spectators. All nominations must be received by October 22, 2006. The award will be presented at the 2006 LAGS Fall Festival.
